This symposium focuses on Wireless Optical Communication and Sensing, covering cutting-edge topics spanning channel modeling, free-space optics, underwater and visible light communication/positioning, and non-terrestrial network applications. It also explores hybrid RF/optical systems, AI-driven signal processing, ultrahigh-bandwidth solutions, and 5G/6G convergence. Green technologies and wireless optical sensing are highlighted to address emerging industrial and academic demands. The session aims to gather global experts for in-depth discussions on theoretical advances, technical breakthroughs, and practical deployments, fostering cross-field collaborations to propel the development of next-generation wireless optical systems.

Special Session Organizers Biography:

Bingcheng Zhu, Associate Professor at Southeast University, IEEE Senior Member, recipient of Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program by CAST, Zijin Young Scholar. He has published 31 papers in IEEE journals and Nature journals as a first author or corresponding author. He is the principal investigator of the National Key Research and Development Program and Natural Science Foundation of China. He served as the Guest Editor of the Journal of Electronics & Information Technology for the special issue “Visible Light Communications Towards 6G”, and the Guest Editor of Electronics in the special issue “Wireless Optical Communication, Positioning, Sensing for 6G and Beyond”.

Ji Chen, the Research Fellow and Ph. D supervisor of Southeast University. He is a recipient of the National High-Level Personnel of Special Program (“万人青拔“), the Xiaomi Young Scholar Award, and the Zhishan Young Scholar Award. He is also a jointly appointed Researcher at the Purple Mountain Laboratories. His current research focuses on novel optical wireless communications and intelligent sensing technologies, intelligent photonics, and optical field manipulation and device design based on artificial nanostructure materials. He has published over 30 high-impact research papers, in Nature, Nature Communications, Optica etc. and have been cited over 3,000 times. His research achievements have been highly regarded by peers worldwide, earning him three times “China’s Top Ten Optical Breakthroughs” awards (2018, 2020, 2022) and one time “China’s Top Ten Breakthroughs in Semiconductor Research” award (2020).

Yuan Renzhi is currently a distinguished research fellow in the School of Information and Communication Engineering and the State Key Laboratory of Networking and Switching Technology of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of British Columbia, Kelowna, BC, Canada in 2021. His research interests include the space-air-ground integrated communications, wireless optical communications, and quantum communications. He has authored/co-authored more than 50 papers and applied 12 patents in the area of optical communication and optical signal processing. Dr. Yuan was a Guest Editor for Photonics journal and is currently a young editorial board member for the Journal of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

Jin-Yuan Wang (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in information and communication engineering from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, in 2016. He is currently an Associate Professor at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Nanjing, China. His current research interest is visible light communications. Dr. Wang is serving as an Editor for KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Systems, Journal on Communications, Journal of Electronics and Information Technology, Optical Communication Technology, Study of Optical Communications, Journal of Henan Polytechnic University, Aerospace Technology, and Telecommunication Engineering. He has been the TPC Co-Chair, Publicity Chair, Track Chair, Workshop Chair, or Session Chair for many conferences. He also serves as a reviewer for many international journals.

Xintong Ling is currently an associate professor with the National Mobile Communications Research Laboratory, Southeast University, and also with the Purple Mountain Laboratories, Nanjing. His current research interests focus on future generation wireless communications, including distributed systems, blockchain technologies, wireless networking, and signal processing. He was selected in Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program by China Association for Science and Technology.
